Banks and climate change. Save the environment |

 Today, global warming and climate change are hot topics. The question is what the financial institutions do about this. ING and Fortis have already taken up the challenge of becoming climate neutral. At the level of climate friendly products, Fortis, Dexia, ING and KBC are amongst the active players. But a clear engagement not to finance climate damaging products is still missing. The Bank of America is one of the first banks to take a step in this direction. They plan to achieve a seven percent reduction in the emission of greenhouse gasses in their investments in energy and utility companies. |

KBC throws eleven cluster bomb producers out of it’s portfolio |

Recently KBC bank revealed that eleven more weapon producers have been added to their 'black-list' of companies. KBC has stated that it will no longer invest in these eleven companies, who are all involved in the production of cluster munitions. This decision has been taken in the context of a stricter policy of the bank group in relation to the arms trade. Netwerk Vlaanderen, Vrede, Forum voor Vredesactie and For Mother Earth warmly welcome this decision. KBC has shown that it is taking the implementation of its weapon policy seriously. |

De campagne ‘Mijn Geld. Goed Geweten?’ van Netwerk Vlaanderen eist dat bankgroepen stoppen met investeringen in ernstige mensenrechtenschendingen. Verder eist Netwerk Vlaanderen ook dat bankgroepen hun mensenrechtenbeleid open en duidelijk communiceren en externe controle op de uitvoering van dit beleid mogelijk maken. |
